Tuberculosis, a silent epidemic in Nigeria and a major cause of rapid health deterioration and death among people living with HIV & AIDS, has never got the type of attention it deserves from Nigeria's policy makers, political leaders and health providers.
Now,the Federal Ministry of Health's National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (FMOH - NTBLCP) is about to change all that by mounting a major advocacy effort with funding from the Global Fund.
Work started in that direction in September when ENHANSE Project provided technical support to the NTBLCP to develop advocacy kits. A one-day brainstorming meeting was held at ENHANSE Projects offices on September 24, followed by a one week materials production workshop in Jos in October. Among the participants were representatives of CHAN, FMOH, INTER-GENDER, WHO, Netherlands Leprosy Relief, NASCP, NTBLCP, ENHANSE Project, the Public Health Department of the Federqal Capital Territory, Abuja, German Leprosy/TB Relief Association, etc.
The zero-draft of the advocacy kits resulting from the workshop is now going through editing and updating. ENHANSE Project and NTBLCP plans to have the kits ready for use by the first week of December. Your comments on them are welcome.
