The
Johns Hopkins University/Center for Communication Programs
(JHU/CCP) is a pioneer in the field of strategic, research-based
communication for behavior change and health promotion that
has helped transform the theory and practice of public health.
CCP was established at the Johns Hopkins University School
of Hygiene and Public Health in 1988 in recognition of the
proven importance of communication in public health programs
and in keeping with the leadership role the Johns Hopkins
University has played in this field. The Center's Africa Division
has a presence in over 14 African countries with field offices
in 12.
Pathfinder/Nigeria
is a locally registered, nonprofit NGO affiliated with Pathfinder
International, a US-based private voluntary organization (PVO)
that provides technical and financial support to reproductive
health programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. For 35
years, Pathfinder has brought innovative service delivery,
IEC, and training approaches to Nigeria. As a pace-setting
NGO, PI is known for its ability to manage complex, multi-site,
large-scale projects that increase access, acceptance, use
of modern family planning methods; enhance service provider
skills; as well as mobilize communities to participate in
reproductive health project activities.
Family
Health International (FHI), a private voluntary organization,
has over three decades of experience in health initiatives
designed to enhance the programming, management and research
of HIV/AIDS and reproductive health interventions worldwide.
FHI's history of successful interventions is grounded in a
quarter of a century of experience in pioneering operations
research. More than 3,700 research projects have been conducted
in over 100 countries, usually through developing country
counterparts. FHI's staff of over 350 members have extensive
field implementation experience and a broad knowledge of other
languages and cultures. FHI personnel come from more than
50 countries, and among the languages spoken are French, Spanish,
Portuguese, Swahili, Russian, Arabic, Hausa, and Hindi.
Population
Services International (PSI) develops and implements programs
worldwide to encourage healthful behavior and to increase
the availability of health products at prices low-income people
can afford. A nonprofit group based in Washington, DC, PSI
is the leading social marketing organization in the world,
with projects in almost 50 countries on five continents. PSI
also participates in special global initiatives such as AIDSMark
and Commercial Market Strategies.
The
Futures Group International is a management, marketing and
strategic planning organization that helps clients make critical
decisions in the presence of future uncertainty. Futures is
committed to enhancing sustainable development through the
transfer of technologies to global experts and institutions
and through the creation of appropriate project designs. Areas
of program concentration include child survival, family planning,
reproductive health, population policy, nutrition, and prevention
of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Since its founding in 1971, Futures has worked in over 50
developing countries for more than 600 clients, including
the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the
African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the
World Bank, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNICEF,
Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), and the World Health
Organisation.
EngenderHealth
International (formerly AVSC International) is one of the
largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to making reproductive
health care accessible to women and men around the world.
EngenderHealth work in over 40 countries to develop clinical
services where none exist, to expand and improve services
at local and national levels, and to build both the ability
and the commitment to provide quality health care that individuals
want. EngenderHealth works with governments, health institutions,
networks of providers, and clinic staff. EngenderHealth's
extensive experience and leadership in the areas of voluntary
sterilization, family planning service delivery, quality of
care, and informed choice are relied upon the world over.
These core areas of expertise form the foundation for what
today is a broad program supporting voluntary family planning
and reproductive health services, including health care for
sexually transmitted diseases, postpartum care, and post-abortion
care.
Africare
helps Africa. Over the course of its 32 years, Africare has
become a leader among private, charitable U.S. organizations
assisting Africa. It is the oldest and largest African-American
organization in the field. Africare was created by Africans
and Americans, working as partners, and receives its financial
support from one of the most diverse donor bases in the charitable
world.
Africare now reaches families and communities in 26 countries
in every major region of Africa, from Egypt to South Africa
and from Senegal to Mozambique. Since its founding in 1970,
Africare has delivered more than $390 million in assistance
-- 2,000 projects -- to 35 countries Africa-wide.
Africare's programs address needs in the principal areas
of food security and agriculture as well as health and HIV/AIDS.
Africare also supports water resource development, environmental
management, basic education, microenterprise development,
governance initiatives and emergency humanitarian aid.

project activities in the education sector.
Internews focuses on partnerships with the media to strengthen
their capacity to provide information on health and education
to policy makers and the public.
